The Big Stretch: Tariq Riaz’s Innovative Journey into Expandable Jewelry
Tariq Riaz, a former computer engineer, transitioned from technology to jewellery design after facing a personal challenge when his wife’s wedding ring no longer fit due to pregnancy. This prompted him to embark on a mission to create flexible rings with a comfortable fit. Over two and a half years, he dedicated himself to studying jewellery design and manufacturing, eventually abandoning his tech career to pursue this new passion full-time.
Riaz's designs feature proprietary stretch technology that allows his rings to expand up to nine sizes, accommodating various conditions such as weight fluctuations or arthritis. Unlike traditional expandable rings that can pinch fingers, Riaz’s innovative approach ensures an even expansion without discomfort, thanks to insights drawn from the medical-device industry.
His trademarked AbrozoFIT mechanism includes four distinct designs, each offering unique features such as individual interior springs and 3D effects. These designs reflect organic and architectural themes influenced by Abu Dhabi, where his jewellery is crafted from 18-karat gold and high-quality diamonds.
Early acclaim for Riaz's work comes from industry professionals, who recognize his engineering prowess and fresh approach to jewellery design.
